The term common mental disorder (CMD) is generally reserved for those mental disorders that are anxietyor depression-related and tend to be seen in primary care. These disorders are recognised as causing considerable social and economic burden in the UK, with community prevalence estimated at 15–30% and the cost of depression alone estimated as £9 billion per year.
